Alicia's smile, a declared 10, fades as her final day of school is interrupted by vandals who had too much fun redecorating the school. She replays the night by riding in the mind of the culprits as her classmates' clamor about who did what and why? Will anyone believe she solved the crime by mind traveling? Or will telling the truth result in her being charged by the police?

Acting on clues gathered through her mind-travels, Alicia has pinpointed a cave entrance that holds a vast underground world of stalactites, a hidden stream, and walls lined floor to ceiling with crystals that seem to hold entire landscapes inside their faces. Deep in that glittering dark, Russell and Abigail have followed a thread of their own, venturing through the cave with a lantern, a pocketknife, and the stubborn courage that has always defined them. Meanwhile, back on the surface, Alicia watches the whole thing unfold from inside their minds, helpless to intervene but unable to look away.
